The Department for Transport, with support from Sciencewise, has just completed a dialogue exploring public views and aspirations around Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV). The dialogue report and evaluation reports have just been released and show it was an innovative and productive dialogue which provided valuable insight into public perspectives on this emerging technology.
The use of CAVs could have wide ranging positive impacts on transport, such as fewer crashes, freedom to travel for those who currently find that difficult and ethical transport networks. However they also raise a number of questions which were raised during this public dialogue around safety, equality of access, control, and how to introduce them.
This dialogue explored the varying public views on how these questions can be answered in order to inform future policy.
